Introducing our new team members graphic

We've had an eventful month here at pm Connections, as we're thrilled to have welcomed not one, but two, fantastic individuals into our team - introducing Darren and Colin!

March 22, 2023

Both professionals have joined us in the capacity of Health & Safety Professionals, bringing with them several years of experience in developing, implementing, and delivering policies and procedures.

We caught up with them both to see how they’ve found their first couple of weeks and learn a little more about them…

Darren Scholes

How did you begin your career?

Through managing health and social care departments, I became more involved and responsible for staff and clients and ensuring that they worked in a safe way and that the correct control measures were in place to reduce them. I also then started to apply this to the office environment and started to develop audits and update policies which led me then to complete my NEBOSH general certificate.

How did you become interested in this field?

I found that over the years, I had become the default person for safety wherever I worked and ended up taking responsibility for checks and audits. There was also a lot of risk and assessment required within my roles in the health and social care sector, and I found this area interesting.

What are your main responsibilities as a Health & Safety Professional at pmC?

My main responsibilities as a Health and Safety Professional have so far been site management which involves auditing RAMS, issuing Permits to Work and inspecting the CDM area to make sure the contractors are working in a compliant way.

What skills, abilities, and personal attributes are essential to success in your new role?

Hopefully a good eye for detail. I’m quick to pick up new systems and to learn, and love learning new things.

What is a typical day (or week) like at pm Connections for you?

It has all been different during my induction, but this week my typical day has involved inducting contractors, resetting up the site office, and then communicating with the contractors to ensure they are working safely and issuing the Permit to Work that matches the works required.

What hobbies/interests do you enjoy outside work?

Having two young children, I don’t get a lot of time for my own hobbies, but I like going on bike rides with the children or watching sports – mainly rugby and motorsports!
